The STEM Education Operations Supervisor provides leadership to and guides the work of the STEM Education Operations Group. Manage and support a community of educators to envision, develop, and implement impactful, in person and digital STEM learning experiences that center equity for a range of audiences in both formal and informal learning environments. In collaboration with Center for STEM Education (STEM Ed) leadership, support the strategic and annual planning process for the department that aligns with the mission, vision, values, and strategies of the Science, Equity, and Education Division (SEED) and Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM). Develop and manage STEM Ed staff, budgets, resources, and operations to meet project/program goals. Collaborate on SEED operations including strategic planning, budgets, systems integration, and resource management.

This role works collaboratively across SMM in leadership and team roles for cross- and inter-departmental initiatives, and cross divisional/department projects. Grow museum audiences by engaging with virtual/in-person and internal/external stakeholders to optimize the reach and impact of museum programs for local, state, regional, and national audiences. Serve as a resource across the institution for the development of operations and logistics systems in support of our education programs. Serve as a leader in operations policy and procedures; partner with Museum Technology to develop and maintain critical software systems to support Center for STEM Education operations.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with Center for STEM Education leadership to develop and implement strategic and annual plans for the Operations Group and STEM Education department overall.
  • Foster and support a collaborative and high-performing team culture within the STEM Ed Department.
  • Lead selection, hiring, communication of organizational goals, and staff training for the Operations Group. Prioritize motivation, recognition, and retention of high performing employees that meet the museum’s strategic and business needs. Advocate for and build support networks and growth experiences for seasonal staff roles.
  • Provide constructive coaching and feedback (including regular performance evaluations), recognition, and identify/optimize opportunities to develop, encourage and inspire staff.
  • Handle elevated issues or concerns arising from program experiences or behavior of participants; mediate customer service concerns and resolve issues independently. Support development of customer service processes that increase sales and improve experiences and service recovery across Center for STEM Education programming.
  • Serve as a superuser and key internal resource for critical software systems that support department logistics including our client relations management system, registration and ticketing system, calendar system, data warehouse system, and data visualization and reports system. Partner with Museum Technology and Research & Evaluation groups to develop new features, reports, documentation, and training to support STEM Education program needs.
  • Develop and prioritize critical tasks and adjust approach as needed to successfully fulfill deadlines and meet departmental needs.
  • Provide leadership and modeling to incorporate best practices for STEM Equity and access for STEM Ed/SEED/SMM staff and audiences.
  • Develop, nurture, and sustain critical museum relationships with external partners and stakeholders that contribute to the vision, experience development, engagement, inclusion, and access for STEM Ed/SEED/SMM audiences. Lead development and contribute to grant and development proposals.
  • Nurture and sustain internal relationships to collaborate across divisions/departments in the development of program and business plans that attend to both mission and margin.
  • Design, implement and manage scheduling, documentation, policies, and infrastructure to assure program sales and successful program delivery. Support the implementation of information and project management systems to seek improved efficiency, build audience, and optimize program impact.
  • Lead departmental and museum work teams in the development, improvement, or management of assets/systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Knowledge of program and business planning, operations, and systems management. Working knowledge of database and business system software for the operation of an education program.
  • Required Experience and Proficiencies:

    • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities
    • Experience communicating complex information both over the phone and in writing
    • Database usage
    • Familiarity with G Suite
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Non-profit management
    • Project management
    • Sales experience
    • Database and system administration
    • Familiarity with Ticketure, Salesforce, or NetSuite
  • Certifications: Valid Driver's License
  • Work Environment: Hybrid (office environment and remote work). Some travel required.

STARTING COMPENSATION: $52,626 - $59,302/year (dependent on experience; Compensation Grade 8)
