SciTech Services, Inc. (SciTech) is seeking a Veterinary Technician I to ensure the health and well-being of various research animals. The Veterinary Technician I will maintain the health and condition of research animals by performing daily animal health checks and collect research data.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Experience caring for various animal species including but not limited to Non-Human Primates (NHP), rodents, rabbits, swine/mini-swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
- Responsible for performing daily and weekly health checks of all laboratory animals.
- Conduct quality assurance checks and implement existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Collect and record animal physiological data and conditions. Report any abnormal situations to veterinary staff.
- Prepare and distribute individualized diets, nutrition, and clinical treatments.
- Maintain electronic medical records and treatment plans based on veterinary directions.
- Assist with setup of basic surgical instruments and operating room procedures.
- Perform veterinary technical procedures such as injections, euthanasia, and basic first aid care.
- Clean and sanitize procedure areas, operating rooms, and prep areas.
- Safe handling and restraint of animals for observation, blood collection, catheterization, tissue collection, or anesthesia.
- Process and prepare blood, urine, stool, or tissue samples for diagnostics and research.
- Participate in study related necropsies and tissue harvest.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- One years’ experience in research animal veterinary technician care.
- LAT qualified within 1 year of accepting position.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
Citizenship/Clearance requirement: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance and pass a background check and drug screening.
