About the Position
At Seattle Safety engineering technicians figure out the best way to make parts. They design tooling and oversee manufacturing plans. They work out how equipment is installed in the field. They do R&D testing for the Engineering department. They find suppliers for unusual materials and components. They work with Engineering at the design stage to make sure designs are manufacturable and the drawings are easy for shop people to use. They prescribe best practices for production. Seattle Safety products are complex, with low production numbers and many sub-systems. Engineering technicians are challenged daily with new and unusual problems. Their work is varied, interesting, and technically challenging. They are self-directed, they work out how a job is best performed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned at any time:
· Apply expertise in manufacturing processes to:
o Evaluate and guide new designs early in the process for manufacturability, installation ease, and usability.
o Develop manufacturing plans
o Source and design tools needed for production and installation
· Work and communicate directly with suppliers where demanding technical requirements require unusual vendor capability or deep coordination.
· Review CAD and technical drawings for manufacturability.
· Support engineering with R&D testing, data collection and reporting, and prototype testing and manufacture.
Production Support
· Uses hands on mechanical skills in production to develop new techniques and processes.
· Assist inspection of critical components and new designs.
· Assists purchasing and planning with new design projects and develops procedures when necessary.
Identifies when new designs will require detailed instructions for vendors or manufacturing personnel to follow, and creates these processes where needed.
Installation and Service Support
· Communicates design intent to Installation
· Travel to customer facilities as needed to commission or oversee installation of new products.
Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience:
· Associates degree or a postsecondary certificate in related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus.
· 5 years’ experience working in development engineering and/or a low-volume job shop production environment is a plus.
· Capacity to review and interpret engineering drawings or blueprints.
· Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling program is a plus.
· Strong computer skills.
· Excellent communication skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
