Job description
The HR Director position is a newly restructured role, designed to be a trusted leader in the HR function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position will play a crucial role in the organization and work closely with the C-Suite and VP's to develop and implement the HR strategy. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to establish a strong foundation in the growing catering industry of the SF-Bay Area event scene.
Responsibilities :
- Oversee the HR administrator / coordinator and have the opportunity to expand the team as needed to align with the HR strategy.
- Collaborate closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and local regulations from an HR perspective.
Compliance :
Complete required filings on behalf of the company, including but not limited to EEO, Unemployment, Wage & Hour, Worker's Compensation, OSHA, ADA, etc. Implement policies and processes to guarantee compliance.Ensure employee FLSA classifications and DOL status are correct and up to date in the HRIS system.Manage the ACA portal in Paycom and ensure compliance with ACA requirements.Stay abreast of industry best practices and legal requirements to enhance programs and policies for the company.Employee Relations :
Manage the full cycle of the employee relations process from initial intake to resolution.Implement strategies to promote positive workplace culture, scalability, and legal compliance.Develop and communicate HR policies and processes to managers that align with California employment laws, ensuring uniform application across the organization. Coach managers on how to effectively handle and resolve employee relations issues by partnering with HR.Performance Management :
Establish scalable performance management processes that incorporate the company's overall business strategy.Provide guidance to managers on addressing performance-related issues that require coaching or counseling in a manner consistent with legal standards and best practices.Training and Development :
Identify scalable training solutions that meet the needs of a growing workforce while adhering to California regulatory standards.Collaborate with department heads to create professional development opportunities aligned with industry trends and legal requirements.Benefits Administration :
Administer and optimize employee benefits programs, ensuring compliance with Federal ACA requirements and California laws and regulations.Conduct regular audits to ensure benefit plans are scalable and meet legal standards.Manage and administer leave of absences in accordance with state, federal compliance.Oversee all workers compensation claims are handled appropriately and timely with the workers compensation carrier. Act as a resource for managers regarding claims.Policy Development and Compliance :
Develop and update HR policies in accordance with California employment laws and industry best practices.Conduct periodic reviews to ensure policies remain scalable, effective, and compliant.Ensure the handbook is updated and distributed to all employees in a timely manner.HR Metrics and Reporting :
Establish and track key HR metrics with a focus on scalability, compliance, and effectiveness.Generate regular reports for senior management that highlight HR-related activities, trends, and metrics specific.Ensure HRIS system is up to date and reflects accurate employee information. Global Gourmet uses Paycom as its HRIS.Scalability Planning :
Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that support the company's scalability goals.Evaluate and adjust HR processes to accommodate the changing needs of a growing organization while ensuring compliance with Federal and California law.Qualifications :
At least 8-10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with strong expertise in non-exempt and seasonal workforce managementStrong strategic thinking and business acumen with the ability to align HR initiatives with company goalsProven experience developing and implementing HR programs - particularly in a changing environmentExceptional leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams. Previous management experience is requiredFamiliarity with and knowledge of state and federal employment laws required - particularly CAMust be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by all staffMust be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlinesApproach all encounters with employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented mannerDemonstrated success leading people organizations in fast-growing, high-performing startupsExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted partnerships with all levels of the companyMust be able to effectively communicate both verbally and writtenExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsSelf-starter who regularly takes initiative and can juggle multiple projects while simultaneously demonstrating creativity and judgmentMust be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the futureSHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferredExperience working with a union is a plus!Inclusivity Statement : We are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
