What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmentalist - Childhood Lead (Health Services) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary
This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.
Develops collaborative efforts with community-based partners aimed at reducing the impact of unhealthy housing.
Pay Grade: 47
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of experience in environmental health; AND
2. Bachelor’s degree in physical, biological, chemical environmental health sciences or related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conducts Healthy Homes inspections, determines sources, and communicates how to reduce safety hazards and indoor allergen triggers.
2. Communicates lead poisoning hazard, prevention information and participates in community outreach activities, including community partners.
3. Prepares and presents activity reports.
4. Assists with obtaining required documentation to evaluate client qualifications.
5. Mediates problems that may occur between tenants and owners during the terms of construction.
6. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
1. Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, and public and or community health, as applied to environmental health.
2. Ability to communicate orally and verbally to a diverse clientele.
3. Ability to plan workday activities and routes.
4. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to stoop, squat, crawl, and perform other physical duties as needed to investigate environmental health complaints.
2. Must be able to lift or pull up to 35 pounds.
3. Must be able to work in all types of weather.
4. Must successfully pass a physical assessment.
Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment.
2. Must have access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements of automobile insurance upon the date of employment.
3. Must be able to occasionally work weekends, altered days or hours.
4. Must successfully complete Healthy Homes Certification courses within 6 months of employment.
5. Valid Lead Risk Assessor license at the time of employment or must obtain such within 6 months of the date of employment.
6. Certification in a nationally recognized Home Inspection Course within 6 months of employment.
7. Must maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout the duration of employment.
