What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Administrator position at Shiel Sexton?
This position is to ensure the security, stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems data networks that support the Shiel Sexton business functions.
Network design and hands-on installation and implementation are standard functions within this role. Current data network methodologies include wired, fiber, wifi, cellular, and satellite.
The Network Administrator will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Responsibilities:
- Assure network security is maintained.
- Collaborate with Information Services team members to ensure fluid and reliable operation of the network environment for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Work with management team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve network and network related systems issues.
- Assist in designing and implementing data centers and server rooms, including HVAC control, environmental alarms, electrical power requirements, and building access restrictions.
- Coordinate and collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability of network resources to meet business demands.
- Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed network systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
- Conduct research on networking equipment, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Enforce change control processes to ensure changes to production environments are well tested, planned, communicated, and documented.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- The network administrator role collaborates alongside other members within the Information Services team to provide off-hours support for critical network outages.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Closely monitors the cybersecurity environment and makes the necessary recommendations and updates to the systems.

Assist with management of IT Interns. This includes engagement, mentoring and teaching.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of documentable experience as a network administrator or engineer.
- Aruba and Fortigate networking experience preferred.

CCNA preferred, not required.

College or University completion is preferred.
