Are you ready to start a meaningful, rewarding career with our Direct Support Professional (DSP) Apprenticeship Program? Gain hands-on experience, receive mentorship, and earn a certification by becoming one of the state's first DSP apprentices.
As a DSP apprentice, you will prepare for a rewarding career in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) field. You will gain knowledge of Indiana’s Medicaid Waiver structure, best practices, service standards, and the effective management of a SIRS program. Through shadowing and hands-on experience, you will provide direct support to individuals by implementing person-centered support, wellness, and behavior plans. You will also learn to respect and understand the rights of those you support, ensure their safety, recognize individual needs, and promote independence across a variety of service settings.

Depending on position, this could include assisting individuals with activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transferring while encouraging the individual to perform as much self-care as possible. Understanding and utilizing adaptive equipment including wheelchairs and belts / locks, Hoyer lifts, etc. and be able to securely load and unload clients’. (Note : Not applicable to all positions.)

Frequent (34%-66% of time). Medium-lifting 80 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
