GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POISTION :
SOLANO COMMUNITY COLLEGE is seeking qualified applicants for part-time teaching assignments in the WATER department. This position emphasizes the ability to teach WATER and WASTE WATER technology courses. The start months for assignments are August, January, and June in each year. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitments. Assignments may include day, evening and weekend courses. Teaching may occur on campus and / or synchronously and asynchronously online as full semester and / or condensed format courses.
The qualified candidate may teach WATER courses both as credit courses and / or contracted. Typical course assignments may include but not limited to Introduction to Wastewater Treatment, Sanitary Chemistry (Study of techniques for control tests for water purification), Water Supply and Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Water / Wastewater Instrumentation and Control, Mathematics as applied to Water and Wastewater Treatment, Water Distribution System Operation and Maintenance, Wastewater Collection System Operation and Maintenance. We are currently understaffed for both WATER and WASTE WATER classes for Spring 2025.
Note : Online instructors must be able to submit an ADA compliant CANVAS shell to the distance education committee for approval during the first semester of service. Additional online education training may be required.

Set in the tranquil valley of Solano County, an area rich with agriculture, Native American history and wine production, Solano Community College is ideally located along the I-80 corridor between San Francisco and Sacramento within minutes of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. In addition to the main campus in Fairfield, the Solano Community College has two education centers; one in Vallejo and one in Vacaville. The college also hosts a state-of-the-art School of Aeronautics at the Nut Tree Airport and offers additional courses at Travis Air Force Base and two correctional facilities.

Our science facilities, support staff, faculty, and administration are aligned to foster student success for many decades to come. As part of the overall college offerings, the mathematics and sciences division schedules courses in astronomy, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, engineering, geography, geology, horticulture, mathematics, physical science, physics, and water / waste water technology. The state-of-the-art facilities in Vacaville and Fairfield are packed full with modern equipment and experienced educators and support staff. Furthermore, the college has plans to expand the offerings in Vallejo to include cohort-based learning in Fall 2022. Each of these locations houses courses taught by faculty in the Mathematics and Sciences division.

This position is a "pool" position, meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The district maintains a "pool" of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Solano Community College. The advantage of "pool" positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations.
- Inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations.
- Meet administrative time lines and submit completed and required documents and reports.
- Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.
- Participate in division staff meetings.
- Keep Student learning outcomes current and assess courses.
- Review of curriculum and assessment of student learning.
Instructors must also provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; review curriculum and assess student learning; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; maintain required student attendance and scholastic records, and both communicate and work effectively with others.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have any bachelor's degree and two years (2) of professional experience in the WATER and / or WASTE WATER Technology area OR
Any associate degree and six years (6) of professional experience in WATER and / or WASTE WATER technology
Highly Desirable :
If you do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. Equivalency is defined as possessing the general education for the degree and the major coursework for the degree. The equivalency request form is included in the application.
All degrees must be from accredited institutions.
