Qualifications: Valid Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant license from the MA Board of Registration of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in
speech-language pathology from a program accredited by ASHA. Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral and/or emotional challenges,
learning or developmental disabilities or autism preferred. Must be able and willing to physically restrain and/or lift students.
Work year: School year (182 days including 2 professional development days)
Reports to: SSEC Director of Therapy or designee
The SLPA works under the supervision of Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) responsible for supervision of therapy services. The supervising SLP retains full legal and ethical responsibility f
for the students, patients, and clients he or she serves, but may delegate specific tasks to the SLPA.
Responsibilities:
1. Evaluation:
● Assist the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation
● Assist the SLP during assessment of students, patients, and clients exclusive of administration and/or interpretation
2. Intervention (under the direction of the SLP):
● Implement intervention plans created by an Speech-Language Pathologist and provide direct services for identified students in a one to one or group setting as required by the IEP
● Implement intervention techniques for students who are unable to use speech as a primary method of communication and thus require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
methods such as sign language and speech generating devices
● Program and provide instruction in the use of AAC devices
● Support the development of student communication/social skills through contextual learning experiences
● Support individual students according to IEP goals and objectives
3. Consultation (under the direction of the SLP):
● Demonstrate or share information with patients, families, and staff regarding strategies developed and directed by the SLP.
● Collaborate with the school based educational team to ensure safe and functional activities to assist in the development of individual student communication skills through-out the school
day as directed by the SLP.
4. Professional Responsibilities:
● Maintain accurate, timely and confidential documentation of speech-language therapy services including those necessary for School-based Medicaid and report to SLP
● Caseload assignment is based on SSEC needs, and may change at any time including location of service delivery.
● Schedule and prioritize own workload (according to efficiency. driving time, etc.)
● Submit and maintain up to date schedule
● Employ professional and ethical practice; Follow ASHA Code of Ethics
● May require the use of a personal automobile for travel between school sites, home, and clinic visits
● Use de-escalation, protective measures, and physical management techniques (including lifting and moving) as prescribed in SSEC approved physical management training programs when
appropriate with students.
● Consistent work attendance which includes; arriving to work on time each day, working the entire day and notifying the program director/coordinator a minimum of 48 hours in advance for a
personal day whenever possible.
● Follows all policies and procedures as established by the South Shore Educational Collaborative and any district settings.
● Participate in all required in-service training
● Maintain confidentiality regarding information for all SSEC and district staff, students and their families.
● Perform other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the program director/coordinator, executive director, and/or district supervisor.
Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC or district sponsored trainings to include but not limited to:
1.Successful completion of SSEC approved restraint trainings full and/or recertification annually as appropriate.
2.Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.
3.Successful completion of all SSEC approved threat assessment training
