What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Counselor position at South Umpqua High School?

South Umpqua School District has an opening for a High School Counselor at South Umpqua High School for the 2024/2025 school year. 

 

Douglas County is located in Southern Oregon along the I-5 corridor. Our School District consists of 5 schools serving students from the communities of Canyonville, Myrtle Creek, and Tri-City. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Oregon school counseling license
  • Knowledge of Oregon diploma requirements, college entrance requirements, and scholarship
  • Knowledge of the social and emotional needs of high school students
  • Knowledge of college, career, and post high school options and pathways for high school students
  • Knowledge of and experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents.

Responsibilities

  • The School Counselor will provide guidance to students in the development and implementation of appropriate educational plans
  • Meet with and support students with academic, social, and mental health needs
  • Conduct timely individual counseling sessions as requested by students, staff or parents
  • Facilitate communication between students, parents and staff
  • Clarify goals and move toward appropriate solutions
  • Provide immediate counseling for students in crisis

This is a full-time benefited position. Benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; employer-paid PERS, as well as a tuition reimbursement program. 

 

Up to $1,500 in reimbursement for moving expense available.
