POSITION SUMMARY: This individual will provide security for throughout Tribal Campus. Duties will include patrolling and observing the activities of persons in and around the Moache Capote building. Work involves assessing problem situations and exercising tact and judgment in bringing about their resolution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.

2. Represents the Southern Ute Police Department in a positive manner by treating all individuals with respect and interacting with the public courteously and appropriately.

3. Provides Traffic control and responds to medical emergencies on campus when required or requested.

4. Prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas.

5. Observes building activities.

6. Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, surveillance activities and interviews witnesses when necessary.

7. Ensures that all visitors have vacated the Maoche Capote building at closing and performs a security check of premises.

8. Inspects the Mouache Capote daily to ensure safety, cleanliness and orderliness.

9. Checks persons and property for contraband, which may include drugs, weapons, razors, and nuisance contraband.

10. Removes persons from the Maoche Capote building when disruptions occur.

11. Maintains confidentiality at all times.

12. Cooperates with tribal law enforcement officers in conducting investigations and/or making arrests on reservation lands.

13. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.

14. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Must have experience in law enforcement, security, or related field.

Must have general computer knowledge in software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must have or obtain certification in Koga Self Defense Techniques and Arrest & Control Techniques within 1 year of hire date.

Must have or obtain first aid and CPR certifications within 6 months of hire date.

Must have or obtain certification in the use and deployment of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray within 6 months of hire date.

Must maintain a telephone for emergency calls.

Must have a valid Driver’s License for state of residency and be insurable through the Tribal vehicle Insurance Policy.

Must sign a confidentiality agreement upon hire.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical exam and annually thereafter.

Must successfully pass a timed Physical Agility test during the first 90 days of employment and annually thereafter. The test will consist of a serpentine run, 150 lb. body drag, 3 ft. barrier vault, bed search, stair climb, 5 ft. barrier up and over, tunnel crawl, and a lift and carry.

Must successfully pass a psychological evaluation prior to employment.

Must never have been convicted of a felony or a crime of misdemeanor domestic violence in State, Tribal, or Federal court. Must not have been convicted of or placed on a deferred judgement for any misdemeanor crime for 1 year prior to appointment. Must not have a restraining order or order of protection.

Must be of excellent character and reputation and pass a thorough background check including Criminal History, fingerprint check, and pre-employment drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and familiarity with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and/or Native American Tribes or organizations, as well as Tribal, State or Federal court systems.

Familiarity with local law enforcement agencies, court systems, service providers, and service agencies.

Previous Security Guard experience in either Tribal, State, or Federal Courts
