POSITION

The School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) at Spalding University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to join our clinical PsyD program, as well as a full-time, tenure-track Director and Training Director of our new, innovative clinical MA program. Fully accredited since 1989, our doctoral program is highly successful, with a strong national reputation. Our new MA program will replicate the first two years of the doctoral program for students who want to practice at the Master’s level. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, either with or immediate eligibility for licensure in KY. Outstanding postdoctoral candidates may be considered as long as the EPPP (national licensing exam) has been passed at the doctoral level. Candidates with marginalized/minoritized identities are especially encouraged to apply.

Summary

JOB SUMMARY

For the PsyD position, we seek candidates who possess strong knowledge and skill in psychological assessment. For the MA Director and Training Director positions, we are seeking candidates with a broad range of expertise to teach across the MA curriculum. Successful candidates will contribute to our highly collaborative environment, be passionate about training the next generation of psychological practitioners, and be expected to achieve a strong balance across the three domains of teaching, scholarship, and service. First, they will be strong teachers who utilize best practices in teaching and enjoy student mentoring. Ideally, they will also be competent in supervision and support the operations of our department training clinic, the Center for Behavioral Health (https://behavioralhealth.spalding.edu/). Second, they will be thoughtful scholars with either a record of presenting and/or publishing in their chosen research interest areas or demonstrated promise to do so. Third, they will possess strong interpersonal skills and a cooperative spirit to work collegially with others on university and departmental service committees. The position offers scheduling flexibility (other than class times) and faculty members are encouraged to use up to eight hours per week in research, consultation, direct service (e.g. private practice) and/or supervision. Opportunities are available to engage in direct service as part of our Faculty Practice Plan, where faculty are able to see their own private practice clients in the Center for Behavioral Health. Additional contract supervision for doctoral students on practicum may also be available.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate courses in the School of Professional Psychology
  • Develop or continue a scholarship interest area (and create opportunities to mentor students in their own scholarship if PsyD faculty)
  • Contribute service to the department and university (e.g., active participation on committees)
  • Mentor students’ dissertation research, if PsyD faculty
  • Attend faculty and departmental meetings and events
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of students

Requirements

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program
  • Must be license eligible or hold a valid license as a psychologist in Kentucky with designation for supervision or working toward it (i.e., HSP designation)
  • PsyD candidates must have expertise in cognitive assessment, with a preference also for expertise in neuropsychological assessment
  • Teaching and supervision experience preferred, but not required
  • Established research interests strongly preferred
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong communication skills in oral and written forms

INTERRELATIONS

  • Must have an appreciation and respect for the diverse, intersecting identities of students and colleagues
  • Will have regular or daily contact with administration, faculty, staff, and students
  • Individual and group faculty mentoring available for the first year of employment
