Description
Under the supervision of the Health & Well being Leadership, the Personal Trainer is charged with effectively and safely screening members for health concerns, addressing goals and providing appropriate exercise prescription. They are required to work shifts on the health & well-being floor, which involves supervising the Health & Well-being Center in accordance with the following policies established by the South Shore YMCA while also providing a high level of member service.
Reports to: Program Director - H& W
CORE EXPECTATIONS:

PROGRAM EXECUTION
-
Supervise their client while in a training appointment, keeping safety as a priority at all times.
-
Adhere to the training guidelines when screening and prescribing an exercise program to members.
-
Obtain medical clearance when deemed necessary according to ACSM Guidelines.
-
Provide a welcoming environment for members, non-members, volunteers and staff.
-
Floor Staff will not leave the Health & Well being Center unsupervised. Staff can only be relieved by other approved floor staff.

Respond to incidents appropriately, calmly and professionally (this may involve putting an appointment on hold in an emergency situation).

Record all incidents and accidents immediately after situation has been resolved and you will not be distracted from supervising the Center. (Report emergency immediately to supervisor on duty)

Follow and enforce Health & Well being rules on and off duty.

STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND TEAMWORK

Work with fellow SSYMCA staff members and treat them with respect.

Every Personal Trainer and Floor Staff has the responsibility of reviewing all guidelines for emergency procedures to ensure a prompt and appropriate response to any incident.

Perform other duties needed as delegated by the supervisor on duty or Health & Well being Director.

Attend all staff meetings and complete skill trainings.
-
Make continuing education a priority through reputable sources.

Work together with other Personal Trainers to share information and support each other at all times.

MEMBER ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
-
Enforce all Health & Well being rules in a consistent, fair and firm manner.
-
Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.
-
Educate members of all policies and procedures of the SSYMCA and the Health & Well being Department when needed.

Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies or direct people to Health & Well being Director.

Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT
-
Maintain a clean and organized Health & Well being Center environment.
-
Replace all weights and other fitness equipment used during an appointment.
-
Record and report any faulty equipment and/or lapse in maintenance to the supervisor on duty.
-
Take and record counts per department standards.
-
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

Support volunteers and their daily functions.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Previous Fitness experience preferred

Personal Training certificate require
Salary : $28 - $38
