Job Summary
St. James Episcopal Church in Essex Junction is looking for an Interim Minister of Music to serve part-time (10 hours per week) from January 15 – September 30 with the possibility of up to 3 months off in the summer (June – August). This position will lead 1 - 2 choirs and play the keyboard (piano and/or organ) for 1 service every Sunday.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering a love for music within our community.
Responsibilities:
- Lead music at 1 weekly Sunday morning worship service and 1 or 2 Holy Week services
- Lead 1 midweek choir rehearsal during the school year
- Music preparation for Sunday service and bulletin in collaboration with priest and office admin
Requirements
- Well-developed keyboard skills (piano or organ) – can be with varying musical styles
- Experience in music direction or a related field, with a strong background in music education. Preferred - Experience leading a small choir and leading congregational hymn singing
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey ideas and instructions.
- Experience in mentoring musicians, fostering their development through guidance and support.
- A deep understanding of various musical genres and teaching methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
- Willingness to submit to a background check and provide professional references
