We are excited to announce St. Lucie County BOCC is offering an opportunity to gain the necessary on-the-job experience to become a Traffic Signal Technician! Additionally, we encourage anyone already holding a Level I Signal IMSA Certification to apply for consideration as a certified Traffic Signal Technician.If hired as a Traffic Signal Technician Trainee, starting rate is $21.91/hr. If hired as a Traffic Signal Technician, starting rate is $26.10/hr.POSITION OVERVIEW: The Traffic Signal Technician Trainee will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems and related equipment. This entry-level position offers hands-on training and development to become proficient in traffic signal operations. The trainee will work under the supervision of experienced technicians and gain the necessary skills to diagnose and resolve issues with traffic signals and controllers, ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow. Upon successfully completing the required training, demonstrating proficiency in traffic signal installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, and gaining the necessary hands-on experience, the Traffic Signal Technician Trainee will be eligible for promotion to a full Traffic Signal Technician position. This transition will be based on the trainee's ability to independently perform all aspects of the role, including advanced diagnostics, system programming, and emergency repairs, while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Installation Assistance: •Assist in the installation of traffic signal systems, controllers, and related electrical and mechanical components under the guidance of senior technicians.•Support with the installation of signal heads, wiring, detectors, and cabinets.Maintenance and Repair: •Learn to perform basic maintenance tasks on traffic signal equipment, including cleaning, adjusting, and replacing parts.•Assist in troubleshooting traffic signal issues, such as malfunctioning signal heads, controllers, and detectors.•Participate in routine inspections to identify and address potential issues with traffic signal systems.Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: •Learn to use diagnostic tools and software to identify problems with traffic signal equipment.•Work with senior technicians to assist in repairing faulty signal systems and electrical components.Programming Assistance: •Gain exposure to programming and calibrating traffic signal controllers under the supervision of experienced technicians.•Assist in adjusting signal timings based on operational needs and traffic patterns.Safety and Compliance: •Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).•Ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations related to traffic control devices and safety standards.Documentation and Reporting: •Help maintain records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.•Assist in preparing reports on traffic signal issues and status updates.Collaboration and Training: •Work closely with senior technicians and traffic engineers to learn proper techniques for installation, maintenance, and repair.•Attend training sessions and on-the-job learning opportunities to expand technical knowledge and skills in traffic signal systems.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently.
