Job Overview
St Paul’s United MethodistChurch in Odessa, DE is seeking a part-time Director of Music Ministries. In collaboration with the pastor and the Witness Team, the Director of Music Ministries will coordinate the music schedule for the chancel choir and the handbell choir, choosing music, leading rehearsals, scheduling presentation times, and leading the groups in the 11 a.m. traditional worship setting. The candidate will be part of the Witness and Leadership teams, will develop the music program including submitting a budget proposal and purchasing music for that ministry, and will participate with the ensembles in community and church-wide events. Candidates should have skills/experience with choral conducting, handbells, and teaching music to choral and instrumental ensembles. A detailed job description is available upon request.
Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct rehearsals for various musical ensembles, ensuring high-quality performances.
- Communicate effectively with musicians, providing constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
- Educate musicians on music theory, techniques, and performance practices.
- Organize and oversee performances, ensuring all logistical aspects are managed efficiently.
- Collaborate with the pastor and Witness team to choose music, schedule presentation times and plan the traditional worship.
Experience
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a music setting, such as conducting or directing ensembles.
- Strong background in music education, with the ability to teach various musical concepts.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with musicians of all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire others in their musical journey.
