Job Summary
The Reservoir Specialist 2 will be the lead biologist responsible for management of regional lakes and reservoirs in northeastern Arizona.
Job Duties
The candidate will have knowledge of fisheries survey techniques; sportfish and native fish identification/habitat requirements; water chemistry measure devices and techniques; operation/maintenance of vehicles, snowmobiles, ATVs, and fisheries survey equipment (particularly watercraft and nets); statistics; computers; analysis and interpretation of field data; maps, GPS equipment, and GIS software. The candidate will be skilled in application of fisheries management and limnological techniques; camping and outdoor activities, including traversing challenging terrain at high elevations in wide ranging weather conditions, and traveling/camping for days at a time; safely and effectively operating watercraft and boat electrofishers; applied data gathering and standardized sampling techniques; computer data processing; oral/written communication and public relations techniques. The candidate will have the ability to interact with the general public, angler groups, governmental agencies, and co-workers in a positive manner; work irregular schedules, which might include travel, long days, and weekends; and work in inclement weather.
Pre-Employment Requirements
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in fisheries and/or wildlife science or a closely related field, and two years of professional experience in fisheries and/or wildlife management/research. A graduate degree in a wildlife science may substitute for one year of the required experience.
CPR training is required within 6 months of hire to conduct electrofishing surveys.
Employment is also contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

- Lead, mentor, and train interns, and/or volunteers.
- May oversee specific work programs and/or project personnel and equipment and organizing data collection field trips.
- Plan, organize, develop funding for, coordinates, schedules, and implement fisheries projects.
- Write project proposals, study plans, checklists, stocking requests, grant proposals, etc.
- Survey aquatic wildlife populations in regional waters. Also, assist coworkers with stream or native fish surveys on regional waters.
- Summarize, analyze, and interpret survey data and write trip summaries, progress reports, and technical reports.
- Survey anglers using creel surveys. Enter and maintain data collected during these surveys.
- Removal of undesirable species in regional and state waters.
- Survey water quality of regional reservoirs as independent studies, to coordinate stockings, or to investigate fish kills.
- Operate and perform maintenance on field and survey equipment including watercraft, vehicles, snowmobiles, ATVs, electroshockers, and nets.
- Communicate with Department personnel, State and Federal agencies (including State Lands Department, US Forest Service, and US Fish and Wildlife Service), private land owners, local communities, angler groups, and the general public.
- Conduct fisheries related information, education, and outreach efforts.
