Reporting to the Director of Recruitment, the Admissions Counselor manages an assigned geographic territory, using high-level customer service, relationship-building, presentation and analytical skills to recruit students; provides reports/data that help management determine market priorities; and provides up-to-date information about the Winthrop University experience to students, parents, and high school counselors and advises them on admissions policies and procedures.Implements approved recruitment strategies and activities in an assigned territory.Promotes and represents the institution to school officials and prospective students and their families at college fairs, recruitment events and information sessions.Assists in the development and execution of admissions-sponsored events.Reviews applications and evaluates academic credentials of prospective students.Meets with prospective students and provides accurate information on admissions, financial aid and curricula.Represents the university at high school and junior college day/night programs in South Carolina and surrounding states; plans visits with high school guidance counselors; and makes follow-up visits to schools.Maintains a full travel schedule and submits travel expense reports based on university policies and procedures.Conducts interviews and counseling sessions for prospective students and their families and follows up with prospective and admitted students.Initiates communication with prospective students regarding admissions and recruitment processes, activities and decisions.Helps students and their families understand their financial aid package and other financial resources.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Bachelor’s degree.Valid driver’s license.Knowledge of higher education student admissions and recruiting best practices and counseling/guidance and marketing techniques. Ability to coordinate and manage recruitment programs; quickly learn new policies, procedures and information on the university and its academic programs; achieve recruitment goals for a specific territory; advise students on a wide range of topics; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make public presentations. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and travel, including overnight, as necessary.
