The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist III position in the Division of Water Quality.
Job Description
Serve as the Bear and Sevier Basin Coordinator within the Division of Water Quality’s Watershed Protection Section. Main duties include:
- Develop and implement water quality restoration plans (Total Maximum Daily Load Studies and watershed plans) in the Bear and Sevier Basins
- Develop and oversee implementation projects that will reduce nonpoint source water quality pollution
- Oversee local watershed coordinators where applicable.
- Attend local, state and federal resource related meetings and work groups to represent water quality issues within the Bear and Sevier Basins
- Review water quality basin assessments as part of the Integrated Report and select monitoring sites within the basins
Best Qualified Candidate
The best qualified candidate will have the following:
- At least 1 year of experience with project and/or program management preferably focused on water quality issues and/or watershed planning
- Coordinates, communicates, and maintains highly effective professional relationships with local, state and federal agencies and stakeholders.
- Practices effective facilitation and project management for water quality projects conducted by Division of Water Quality staff and/or contracted to external entities
- Knowledge of Clean Water Act, Utah Water Quality Act, Utah’s Administrative Rules, and associated guidance that govern water quality programs in Utah
Preferences
A Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited institution in: biology, hydrology, aquatic ecology, environmental science, watershed science, natural resources, limnology, civil or environmental engineering, communication or closely related discipline;
OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.
Work Location
This position may be eligible for a hybrid/flexible work schedule some after in-office training. Our office is located at 195 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason. Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah. As such employees should either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
