POSITION SUMMARY:
The Rover position requires a versatile and skilled individual. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations within our steel service center by possessing the ability to perform all tasks and duties across various positions in the plant (i.e. packaging line, bar code/tag clerk, forklift, crane, shipping/receiving and the slitter setup helper and slitter operator functions). This position requires training, assisting coworkers, in-process inspection and coordinating requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Complies with all safety rules for personnel and facility protection as defined in the employee handbook.
- Assist in overseeing daily operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards and production schedules.
- Follows all SOP’s (standard operating procedures) and WI (work instructions).
- Complies with the attendance requirements as defined in the Attendance Policy in the employee handbook.
- Have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all positions within the plant, including but not limited to all machine operation, material handling, quality control and maintenance.
- Serve as a flexible resource, capable of seamlessly transitioning between different roles to address staffing needs and maintain operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team leads to identify staffing gaps and deploy resources effectively to meet production demands.
- Provide training and support to new hires or employees transition to different roles within the plant.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions as necessary to minimize downtown and optimize productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including inventory levels, machine settings and quality control metrics.
- Responsible for the performance of all assigned administrative functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees are standing/walking 100% of time; lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed; climbing stairs to operator platform; reading charts, tags and written procedures; printing or writing legibly to complete all required paperwork; and measuring material as required.
METHODS, TECHNIQUES, PROCEDURES: Follows Standard Operating Procedures as outlined in the Training Matrix.
EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS: This person must be able to use a band breaker, pneumatic bander/crimper, hand bander, hand cutters, staple gun, electric shears and nibblers; jib crane, calipers, micrometer, calculator, ID/OD calculator, tape measure, pneumatic impact wrench. Must possess valid forklift and crane operator license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This work site is in the plant. The plant is on one level, accessible directly from the parking lot. There are stairs in the rail pit and up to the slitter platforms. There are short ladders on the banding lines to climb from the floor to the conveyor. There are seasonal variations in temperatures from 60 to 95 degrees; some exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant; noise level varies depending on number of machines in operation. Potential hazards include strains, cuts, and crush injuries.
SUPERVISION AND CO-WORKERS/ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: Supervision and/or co-worker assistance available at all times. Attendance is closely monitored through a "no fault" attendance program. Unscheduled absences may result in failure to meet customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.
