Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care and Support:
- Prepare patients for exams or procedures by obtaining vital signs, recording medical history, and explaining processes.
Clinical Assistance:
- Support healthcare providers during exams or minor procedures, including preparing instruments and ensuring sterile conditions.
- Perform routine diagnostic tests, such as EKGs or glucose monitoring.
- Collect specimens, such as blood or urine, for laboratory testing.
Patient Education:
- Provide instructions to patients about prescribed treatments, medications, and preventive care.
- Teach patients how to manage chronic conditions or use medical equipment, such as glucose monitors.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals to specialists or additional services.
- Update and maintain patient records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Assist with billing inquiries and verifying insurance information.
Medication and Treatment Management:
- Administer prescribed medications, ensuring accurate dosages and adherence to clinic protocols.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report findings to the supervising nurse or physician.
Infection Control and Safety:
- Adhere to infection prevention protocols, including sanitizing equipment and maintaining a clean work environment.
- Follow clinic policies regarding biohazard waste disposal and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Team Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with physicians, RNs, and other clinic staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss patient care plans and clinic operations.
Emergency Response:
- Provide basic life support (BLS) in emergency situations, including administering CPR if necessary.
- Assist in stabilizing patients for transfer to higher levels of care if required.
Inventory and Equipment Management:
- Monitor and restock medical supplies and medications, ensuring clinic readiness.
- Check and calibrate clinical equipment to maintain proper functionality.
Specialized Responsibilities (Depending on Clinic Focus):
- Assist with vaccinations and immunizations in pediatric or family medicine clinics.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure care in specialty clinics, such as dermatology, cardiology, or OB/GYN.
- Educate patients on reproductive health or family planning in women’s health clinics.
- Assist with basic patient care, such as wound dressing, mobility assistance, and monitoring.
- Administer medications and injections under the supervision of a physician or RN.
Qualifications:
- Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) certification in California (don’t leave home without it!).
- Hospital experience is a plus, but we’re happy to train enthusiastic LVNs who love to learn.
- Excellent communication skills—extra points if you can throw in a great dad joke!
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (but don’t worry, no capes required).
