Position Summary:
Story Construction is looking for a creative and team-oriented Project Designer to join their design team! You will support architectural design and project coordination, working closely with other members of the design team to deliver cohesive, high-quality design solutions. You will work cross-functionally with design, estimating, and Story project teams and report to the Senior Architect.
Summary of Duties:
- Assess and interpret Owner's program requirements to support informed decision-making.
- Oversee coordination of design team efforts, including consultant proposals, contracts, schedules, progress, and communication, in collaboration with the Architect.
- Produce vision-aligned documentation.
- Facilitate owner approvals for each design phase (schematic design, design development, and construction documents) in coordination with the Architect.
- Cultivate relationships with Owners, Project managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Design Consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Communicate design details effectively using applications like Revit, SketchUp, and BSD Speclink.
- Maintain general knowledge of building codes, energy codes, and local regulations.
- Bring innovation and creativity to design development.
- Review submittals for accuracy and ensure alignment with the Architect's intent.
- Propose responses to RFIs for Architect's review.
- Participate in site observations, documenting and issuing site visit minutes as needed.
- Attend and contribute to regular progress meeting with the owner and design team, led by the Architect.
- Track and document key design decisions throughout the project.
- Develop and issue specifications that align with project drawings and scope.
- Collaborate with estimating team to ensure budget compliance as the design progresses.
- Evaluate civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire sprinkler documents to ensure integrated design alignment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or similar required in addition to 4 years of experience in a similar role; Bachelor's degree in Architecture in addition to 2 years of experience in a similar role preferred.
- Ability and willingness to obtain Architect License in the State of Iowa preferred, but not required.
- Experience in commercial and/or industrial construction preferred.
- Proficiency with Revit required, experience with Enscape and Adope Suite is a plus.
Travel: Occasional travel to attend trainings, design meetings, or to visit a job site.
