Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Plan, organize and supervise subsurface activities and staff; develop and align technical resources with Tallgrass development and operational interests.
- Oversee subsurface activity to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop, monitor and implement O&M and Capital budgets.
- Ensure the Company budget forecasting and accrual processes are properly implemented and followed.
- Strong customer focus working with Project Management, Commercial Origination, Operations Control Center, Field Operations, Pipeline Scheduling, and other internal and external groups.
- Special projects as required.
- Evaluate prospective subsurface assets for acquisition and development/enhancement.
- Direct engineering support for regulatory filings and proceedings and system operational problems and/or improvements.
- Direct engineering guidance in the development of best practice operational methods.
- Direct and implement severe weather operating plan(s).
- Direct service availability evaluations and the implementation of advisories and operational flow orders.
- Regularly communicate with management regarding project status, goals and objectives.
- Create an environment of ongoing training and learning to maximize performance of team.

Minimum requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related discipline.
- 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas and/or pipeline industry.
- Prior exposure to natural gas exploration/production, CO2 Sequestration and/or underground storage operations.
- Experience with developing Company programs for compliance, operations, and training.
- Experience with a variety of underground storage types including depleted reservoir, aquifer storage, and cavern storage.
- Experience developing/implementing subsurface risk based integrity management plans (API RP 1170/1171; PHSMA UNGS compliance)
- Knowledge of reservoir fluid flow and reservoir modeling.
- Knowledge of well construction and well maintenance including drilling completion and work overs.
- Knowledge of basic open hole and cased hole log analysis.
- Knowledge of gas well flow test evaluation & transient analysis.
- A team player with proven communication skills, capable of working effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Able to work with minimal supervision and be driven to produce results at both an individual and team level.
- Proven track record in applying technology and generating value adding results.
- Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
- Participate in defining engineering approaches and in planning and scheduling work.
- Manage, schedule and coordinate major projects.
- Review design and documentation to ensure compliance.
- Conduct feasibility studies, determine manpower, cost estimates, and develop engineering criteria.
- Significantly contribute to meeting business objectives by generating and implementing project ideas.
- Subsurface Petroleum Engineering fundamentals:
- Reservoir engineering including simulation, volumetric, and material balance calculations
- Fluid characterization
- Pressure transient analysis
- Nodal analysis (inflow outflow)
- Log analysis
- Experience with developing, managing and forecasting O&M and Capital budgets.
- Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
- Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.

- 15 plus years’ experience with natural gas storage reservoir engineering/CO2 sequestration
- Experience with unconventional (low permeability) reservoirs and water drive reservoirs.
- Familiar with FERC regulations related to underground gas storage reservoirs.
- Familiar with PHMSA regulations and advisory guidelines related to underground gas storage reservoirs.
- Familiar with UIC Class VI regulatory requirements
