What are the responsibilities and job description for the Site Safety Officer position at Taplin Group, LLC?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Site Safety Officer (SSO) is the onsite coordinator of a safe worksite through adherence to Taplin’s safety program. The SSO is the positive interface between clients and the often widely diverse project teams in regards to all safety matters onsite.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements accident and loss prevention programs
- Conduct regular safety audits of site in order to prevent any incidents and maintain OSHA compliance
- Conduct regular daily safety meetings (toolbox talks)
- Maintains the records of all Project Health and Safety files, including training certificates, medical clearance, and Health and Safety permits
- Ensures that safety programs are in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations
- Produces all safety program reports, including lost time accidents, property losses, and near losses
- Interacts with supervisors and workers in order to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices
- Observe new site tasks to provide support and ensure safe practices
- Identifies loss producing conditions and practices, recommending appropriate corrective action
- Participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments
- Confirms that Subcontractors meet all Health & Safety requirements, including personnel training, procurement of Health & Safety Materials, etc.
- Coordinate with Safety Manager to develop training manuals and training aids, as needed
- Be able to provide training on safety program fundamentals and site-specific orientation and training
- Assist in the creation of Specific Task Hazard Analysis and Job Safety Analysis

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- 40 Hour Hazwoper & OSHA 30-hour certification preferred
- Knowledge of Remediation and Heavy Equipment operations
- Excellent communication skills in written and verbal forms
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task while attending to details
- Excellent Interpersonal skills and leadership abilities
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet
- Ability to perform duties and responsibilities with little to no supervision
- Valid Michigan Operator’s License
- Able to understand basic equipment operating instructions and safe work practices
EDUCATIONAL / CERTIFICATION REQUIRMENTS
- Safety related Certifications MIOSHA Level -1 or Field or equivalent experience 5-7 years of experience in projects involving, Industrial Cleaning Services and Settings, remedial actions
