What are the responsibilities and job description for the RF Systems - Electrical Hardware/Signal Processing Engineer position at Tec-Masters, Inc.?
Job Description: Tec-Masters is seeking an Electrical Engineer or related field (with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD) and 5 years of experience to design and build a hand-held cable measurement device to detect, locate, characterize, and predict anomalies.
Successful candidates will specialize in Radio Frequency (RF) hardware and signal analysis associated with radar systems and transmission line design and development. This project supports the development of a wire/cable fault detection tool for the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC), Aviation & Missile Center (AvMC), Engineering Directorate (ED). This position provides the opportunity for patentable work.
Must be comfortable with a hands-on approach building a frequency modulated continuous wave radar generator, using cables of various gauges, lengths and conditions, and analyzing transmission lines using signal processing techniques, high order analytical tools, high performance computer with a Linux operating system, Python, and MATLAB tools (or similar), to perform analysis determining, characterizing, locating, and predicting physical anomalies using a hand-held micro-controlled based device.
This project is suitable for PhD candidates researching the use of transmission line/wave guide signal analysis for characterizing cable wire condition.
Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering expertise in system design, development, and testing and evaluation
- Perform transmission line analysis, design, and tuning to optimize signal to noise ratio (SNR)
- Integrate, test, and evaluate radar systems designs
- Prepare and present briefings on analysis, current tasks, schedules, and goals
- Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation
- Demonstrate professional communication skills on a daily basis
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with appropriate related experience is mandatory. Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in Electrical Engineering, or related technical field is preferred. Doctoral candidates are encouraged to apply. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Required Skills:
- MATLAB tools (or similar) experience
- Familiarity with Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) is a PLUS
- Strong statistics experience, including non-parametric tests and advanced statistical analysis techniques
- Analysis determining, locating, characterizing, and predicting anomalies
- Signal processing techniques and expertise, including developing and implementing algorithms for Fast-Fourier Transform (FFT)

- Mandatory - Strong understanding of high frequency analysis
- Mandatory - Experience with standard RF test equipment (Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, RF Sources/Signal Generators [power meters], Oscilloscopes)
- Mandatory - Experience with circuit design (e.g., LTSpice, Cadence) and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout and schematic capture software (e.g., KiCad, Eagle, Altium, Proteus, Diptrace, etc.)
- Experience in hands-on prototyping and circuit simulation
- Experience testing and documenting results, writing technical reports, and briefings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Python and/or other scripting languages
- Expertise with Machine Learning (ML) for predictive analytics
- Linux operating systems
- Microwave system design
