Job Description
Responsibilities:
Assembles and operates technical equipment (e.g. tractors, cotton strippers, peanut combine etc.).
Assists in coordinating repairs, maintenance schedules and proper maintenance of all farm equipment to maintain safe and efficient equipment.
Assists in coordinating and assigning daily work schedules for employees.
Assists in purchasing supplies and equipment.
Assists in maintaining the grounds of the research program, pesticide storage, safety procedures, and ensure that workers use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Prepare seeds, manage planting, monitor crop growth, and assist with harvesting.
Collects samples and measurement data from experiments.
Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
Apply agricultural chemicals following safety standards.
Assists with program and outreach efforts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
No prior experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Physical ability to lift up to 80 pounds to shoulder height.
Strong work ethic, adaptability, ability to multitask and attention to detail, and and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to thrive in physically demanding environments and work as part of a collaborative team.
Other Requirements:
Ability to perform fieldwork in varying conditions, including high temperatures, dusty environments, cold weather etc.
Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
Ability to travel to multiple field locations as required.
Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funds.
