Who we are

The Office of Undergraduate Recruitment handles freshman, transfer, international, and other prospective students who wish to apply to Texas A&M University. The office is also responsible for recruiting and enrollment an academically prepared student body geographically and economically varied. In addition, Undergraduate Recruitment also offers several opportunities for prospective students and their families to visit campus throughout the year to learn about the rich traditions and culture of Texas A&M University.

Undergraduate Recruitment is looking for a qualified Assistant Director, Counselor Liaison. The Assistant Director, is responsible for developing, executing, and managing a recruitment strategy to include coordinating and implementing regional programs and events to enhance high school counselor relations, community-based partnerships with college access networks, school district leadership, community organizations, and Former Texas A&M University Student Networks in the assigned community. This role is also involved in identifying, recruiting, and contributing to increasing the population of admitted and enrolled high-achieving students and supervising regional positions. Includes serving as an information resource and back-up to the Associate Director, Senior Associate Director, or Director and managing recruitment and training programs.

55,412.00 - $71,219.20 (Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience)

This position requires extensive travel. This position may direct and / or evaluate the work of others. This position may require work beyond normal office hours and / or work on weekends.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Six years of progressively responsible experience in a professional or administrative capacity in admissions, recruitment, advising, financial aid, or outreach

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of financial aid programs and federal regulations relating to student financial aid

knowledge of standard office equipment and computers

Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills with individuals or in a group setting

Must possess strong organization skills

Ability to work well with counselors, students, and parents

Ability to work well with student population

Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs

Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic organization, possessing a positive attitude and is customer-service oriented

Ability to work outside of normal business hours and travel overnight

Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions

Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment with good interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Qualifications

A State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Master’s degree

Bilingual in Spanish

Professional experience in higher education

Professional experience within TAMUS

Customer service experience, particularly within higher education

Experience in producing reports of the analysis and evaluation of activities

Participation in Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC) or Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO) programs or other professional organizations related to admissions, recruitment, student advising, student financial aid or student services

Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management and organizational practices

Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practice and methods of admissions, marketing, and enrollment

General knowledge of higher education institution, general academic requirements, and admission policies

General knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of customer service

Proficiency in related student information systems such as Banner, AIS, Howdy, MOSES

Responsibilities

Leadership

Mentor and train advisors on admissions and financial aid

Coordinate major office programs

Lead in professional associations and committees

Represent Texas A&M at conferences

Provide strategic direction to community liaisons

Program Management

Develop and implement programs for high school counselors

Interact with students, parents, and school staff

Manage recruitment and financial aid awareness programs

Conduct presentations and establish community contacts

Develop relationships with university departments and advisors

Create and revise informational materials

Collaborate with external organizations for recruitment activities

Extensive travel required.

Recruitment & Matriculation

Coordinate recruitment of high-achieving students

Support regional staff to meet recruitment goals

Work with Scholarships & Financial Aid on scholarships

Develop communication strategies for counselors, students, and parents

Track and manage prospective students

Resolve admissions issues with applicants and parents

Maintain knowledge of university policies and admissions processes

Use various systems for tracking student information

Administration

Oversee training and development of recruitment staff

Provide feedback and performance evaluations

Assist with budget preparation and implementation

Manage recruitment team activities

Analyze market trends and program effectiveness

Recommend new initiatives to the Director

Job Knowledge

Maintain knowledge of university policies and financial aid regulations

Attend workshops and conferences

Compile data and generate reports

Assist with data collection and reporting
