The Arc Jacksonville is looking for a Manager for our Summer LIFE Experience Program.
Life,LivingIndependentlyFindingEnrichment, is a summer program for individuals 18 years or older. The program is geared toward adults with intellectual and developmental differences who would like to experience a sneak preview of living on their own. The Summer LIFE Experience provides these adults the opportunity to test life away from home and for families to learn about the prospects of how their child might successfully transition into community-based living.
The Summer LIFE Experience is located in Frassati-Newman Hall, located approximately one mile from the University of North Florida campus. Participants enjoy the privacy and responsibility of their own bedroom in furnished 4 bed/2 bath apartments that are conveniently located near shopping centers, movie theatres, and recreation opportunities. Each apartment has a housing assistant to provide live-in guidance (ILM).
This is an 8-week position. The program has two, four-week sessions. Session 1 will be Sunday, June 2nd-Saturday, June 29th. Session 2 will be Sunday, July 7th-Saturday, August 3rd. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, motivated to help our clients, and passionate about The Arc Jacksonville. They will also help convey our mission. The Arc Jacksonville serves and advocates for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences to achieve their full potential and to participate in community life.
This position will be located primarily out in the community and at Frassati-Newman Hall, with a home base of the On Campus Transition Program at UNF.
The manager will supervise on-site independent living mentors, AmeriCorps Service Members, and any interns and volunteer
Reports to: Residential and Student Life Coordinator and On Campus Transition Program Director
Program Specific Job Requirements:
- Provide oversight of the operations for the Summer LIFE Experience Program.
- Provide supervision to Summer LIFE residential staff. Responsible for scheduling staff, record keeping, and submission of time sheets.
- Coordinate the daily activity schedule, assignment of duties for staff, on-call sheets, and any other assignments needed for the success of the program.
- Coordinate with the AmeriCorps Director to ensure the AmeriCorps Independent Living Mentors complete AmeriCorps requirements and provide any required documentation of services to the AmeriCorps Director.
- Provide responsible supervision of people receiving services to assure health, sanitation, safety, comfort, and protection of individual rights.
- Substitute for and/or assist staff as needed to assure quality training and care for people receiving services.
- Respond to medical and behavioral crises to assure the safety of people receiving services and staff. Recognize and take action to correct any potential safety or health hazards.
- Ensure all program policies, rules, and procedures are followed.
- Conduct weekly apartment checks as needed to ensure maintenance issues are addressed and corrected. Ensure apartments are fully furnished, all appliances are in adequate and working condition, and apartments are cleaned and decorated after each semester.
- Provide feedback to the coordinator and director regarding Frassati Newman Hall to ensure apartments are maintained according to lease.
- Act as liaison regarding ILMs, residential staff, and parents/guardians with OCT Coordinator/Director.
- Provide sick/vacation coverage for Summer LIFE staff.
- Answer to and facilitate emergencies regarding residents and/or staff throughout the nighttime hours.
Qualifications
Education:
MA/MS in Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education (concentration in Disability Services) or other related fields preferred.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of behavior modification and counseling principles desired. Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills including ability to multi-task. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher. Must have positive interpersonal skills, professional appearance and high energy.
Salary: $8,000 contract stipend for eight weeks, no benefits or paid time off included.
