Job Summary
The Materials Coordinator is responsible for procurement and inventory management in support of operational goals and delivery commitments. This role involves negotiating supplier agreements, maintaining optimal inventory levels, monitoring market conditions, and supporting production, sales, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate has a background in purchasing, logistics, and vendor relations within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in strategic planning and establish supply chain objectives aligned with corporate goals.
- Negotiate and procure materials, supplies, equipment, and services to support company operations.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Engineering to address scheduling, production, materials, and design challenges.
- Monitor supply chain operations, identifying inefficiencies and implementing solutions.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries while minimizing costs.
- Prepare performance reports, budget forecasts, and improvement recommendations.
- Establish ethical and transparent purchasing policies in compliance with industry standards.
- Stay updated on market trends, new materials, and supplier innovations.
- Track and resolve non-conformances in defective materials and hold vendors accountable.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives in communication, training, and cost reduction.
- Travel occasionally to trade shows and vendor sites for supplier evaluation.
- Execute accurate physical inventory counts quarterly.
Physical Demands
- Split time between office and warehouse environments to review inventory and materials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Prolonged computer use for data analysis and reporting.
- Close visual acuity required to analyze data, transcribe information, and review inventory reports.
Qualifications
- BA/BS in Supply Chain, Business, or Management or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in supply chain management, purchasing, or inventory control (preferably in a manufacturing setting).
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn ERP and procurement software.
- Experience with vendor sourcing, contract negotiation, and market analysis.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills for data-driven decision-making.
- Strong negotiation and networking abilities.
