What are the responsibilities and job description for the Older Adult Ministry Coordinator position at The Salvation Army Western PA Division?
The Older Adult Ministry Coordinator is responsible for coordinating services and outreach to older adults residing in Allegheny County. Develop, maintain, and continually update a schedule of programs and supportive services that align with the mission of TSA. Program development in education, recreation, worship, and fellowship experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for planning older adult ministry programs for each corps location in Allegheny County while working closely with corps officers to implement these programs.
- Assist with recruitment of Older Adults for the Older Adults Ministries Camping season.
- Assist with planning of OAM camping sessions and serve as a resource to the Older Adults Ministry Secretary.
- Serve as liaison between corps and divisional leadership, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Assist local corps with the creation and management of a monthly calendar of activities, services, and events.
- Develop professional provider relationships with older adults, their families and caretakers and serve as a liaison between all parties. This can include referring counseling, crisis intervention, follow up reassurance phone calls, advocacy, and in- office meetings.
- Develop, maintain, and continually update a directory of supportive services and agencies available to residents within the local community.
- Assist with outreach efforts to encourage connection with other corps ministries and increase participation in these ministries. Ensure timely response and follow-up to referrals made.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of program and promotional materials.
- Responsible for the spiritual care of program participants, including pastoral visits, regular bible studies, and opportunities to become in other corps ministries.
- Prepare monthly statistical report as required by Divisional Headquarters and National Statistical System. Prepare documentation (assessments, case logs, case notes, etc.) as stipulated by contractual and agency standards and procedures. Complete case notes and log outcome measurement data.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly newsletters, bulletins, travel opportunities.
- Provide direct supervision of assigned staff and volunteers.
- Participate in conferences seminars, and meetings as appointed by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned by the Allegheny County Coordinator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of community resources and service providers to older adults.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally, economically, and educationally diverse populations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of working with the elderly and knowledge of the process and issues of aging, including disability, mental health and abuse issues. Must be flexible in dealing with others.
- Ability to form positive interpersonal relations in dealing with a wide range of staff as well as external contacts.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work some flexible hours (e.g., evenings, weekends, Thanksgiving or Christmas Holiday)
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Computer literacy including ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe training required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry, Social Work, Aging Services, education, or related required.
- Two years of program coordination, ministry, senior center or aging services programs required.
- Supervisory experience.
