Community Pool Assistant Manager (Seasonal)

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a few dynamic First Mates to help lead our aquatic crew as the Community Pool Managers at either our Berkeley Heights Community Pool or Springfield Community Pool Locations. If you have experience and a passion working in aquatics, you may be the right candidate for this role.

The Summit Area YMCA operates two seasonal Outdoor Pool Facilities, The Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA, Located at 59 Locust Ave, Berkeley Heights, NJ and The Springfield Community Pool, located at 44 Morrison Road, Springfield, NJ 07081.

Working under the direction of the Facility Director and the Community Pool Manager, the Assistant Manager helps manage the day-to-day operations at the Community Pools. The Assistant manger ensures the delivery of high quality, member-focused SAY aquatic programs for the outdoor pools. The Assist Manager creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Y policies and procedures. .

This position is seasonal full time position, 40 hours each week, which may includes nights and weekends. Wages are competitive, starting $19.00/hour, but based on experience. The active Outdoor Pool season runs from Late May - Early September with some pre season work/ trainings.

Essential Functions:

• Assists the Director & Manager in directing and supervising program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
• Assists in training, developing, scheduling and supervising aquatics staff and volunteers.
• Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
• Work with Director & Manager to ensure compliance in high standards of safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies. Models, promotes and maintains a Culture of Safety which includes but is not limited to in-service trainings, weekly fitness & skills assessments, drills etc.
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
• Helps compile program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
• As an Ambassador for the Y, communicates to members, volunteers, and the general public that the Y is the nation’s leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

Requirements

• High School Degree or Equivalent (college course work / credits preferred)
• Two years’ experience as a Head Lifeguard or Supervisory role.
• Minimum age requirement of 18
• Certified American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard (valid certification)
• Full time availability for during the active pool season, including evenings and weekends
