Job Description: Executive Director – Senior Living Facility
Position Title: Executive Director

· Position Overview
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operations of the senior living facility. This includes ensuring exceptional care and services for residents, meeting financial performance goals, and fostering a positive and inclusive community for residents, families, and staff. The Executive Director will uphold the organization’s mission, vision, and values while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and standards.
· Key Responsibilities
· Leadership and Operations
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the facility to ensure a high standard of care and quality of life for all residents.
- Oversee daily operations, including resident care, dining services, maintenance, activities, and administrative functions.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that values respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
· Resident Care and Satisfaction
- Promote a person-centered approach to care, prioritizing the dignity, independence, and well-being of residents.
- Build relationships with residents and families, addressing concerns promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with staff to create a welcoming, engaging, and safe environment.
· Financial and Business Management
- Prepare and manage the facility’s operating budget to meet or exceed financial goals.
- Oversee billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to maintain high occupancy rates, including outreach to referral sources.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies without compromising quality of care.
· Staff Development and Management
- Recruit, train, and retain high-performing staff to support the facility’s mission and operations.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluations to department heads and employees.
- Ensure compliance with staffing regulations and maintain appropriate staff-to-resident ratios.
- Address employee concerns and foster a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.
· Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure the facility meets or exceeds standards set by regulatory agencies, including inspections and audits.
- Lead the development and implementation of quality assurance initiatives and performance improvement plans.
- Stay informed of industry trends, best practices, and changes in regulations to keep the facility competitive and compliant.
· Qualifications
· Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Management, Gerontology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in senior living, long-term care, or healthcare management.
- Proven track record of managing budgets, achieving financial goals, and maintaining high occupancy rates.
· Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities with a focus on team collaboration.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with residents, families, staff, and stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of senior living regulations, including assisted living and memory care services.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in using technology, including electronic health records (EHR) and management software.
· Certifications
- Certified Assistant Living Administrator (CALA) or Administrator in Training (AIT) certification is highly preferred, depending on state requirements.
· Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to move freely throughout the facility to interact with residents and staff.
- Occasional travel may be required for training, meetings, or conferences.
