STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of the Parent Enrichment Mental Health Therapist is to provide short-term individual and/or family therapy and facilitate support groups for clients enrolled in our CalWORKs /Home Visiting program. Individual/family therapy is meant to be short-term and address a gap in service delivery when community mental health organizations have extended waiting periods.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Parent Enrichment Mental Health Therapist provides in-person individual and/or group therapy to CalWORKs/Home Visiting clients, facilitates on-going weekly Support Groups and one-time informational Workshops in areas of interest to clients. The therapist completes all required documentation, including assessments, screening tools, sign-in sheets and progress notes accurately and in a timely manner. The Therapist promotes and models a trauma-informed, strength-based approach to treatment that empowers families, supports a community-based philosophy of service, and ensures that services are aligned with The Whole Child’s mission, vision, and core values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide short-term, trauma-informed mental health services in-person, including Support Groups and one-time informational Workshops to CalWORKs Home Visiting clients
- Complete MH assessments and screening tools to identify client and/or family needs
- Develop SMART Goals to address areas of concern
- Incorporate nationally recognized guiding principles of trauma-informed care such as safety, empowerment and peer support, to help client’s resume a healthy life trajectory
- Provide training and case consultation to para-professional staff
- Actively participate in weekly clinical supervision
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited School of Social Work or Psychology program
- Current valid registration with the California BBS (Board of Behavioral Sciences)
- Training in at least one EBP which can be used to facilitate support groups
- Experience working in a community-based setting with culturally and socioeconomically diverse families
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage a fast-paced environment
- Detail oriented, able to follow up on concerns, and maintain accurate record keeping
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Bilingual (Spanish-speaking)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Employee must maintain BBS registration and be current on all annual certifications
- Must possess a current and valid driver's license and valid auto insurance coverage during employment.
- Must have verification of T.B. clearance at the time of employment, to be renewed every year (every 2 yrs for chest x-rays).
- Employee may be asked to participate in cross-training programs or pursue additional education or training when it is determined to be in the best interest of the organization.
- Evenings and weekends required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a normal office setting with need to work in the field providing services to clients in their homes and at community sites. Noise level is moderate with occasional loud outbursts.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, and walk, kneel and bend 50% of the time.
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, (i.e., calculator, computer printer).
- Constantly converses with staff and clients.
- Occasionally needs to transport materials (toys, books, etc.) weighing up to 50 pounds for therapeutic activities.
