Job Description
Total-Western, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator, Large Projects to lead our estimating team. The Chief Estimator will be responsible for managing the estimation process for large-scale engineering and construction projects, ensuring accurate and competitive bids. Key Responsibilities
Estimation Management:
- Lead the estimation process for large projects, including review of project plans, specifications, and requirements.
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.
- Ensure all estimates are accurate, detailed, and aligned with client expectations and industry standards.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage and mentor the estimating team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of the estimating team.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Process Improvement:
- Develop and implement standardized estimating procedures and best practices.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the estimating process to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and cost factors to inform estimating strategies.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Participate in project planning meetings and provide input on cost-related matters.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address cost uncertainties.
- Conduct risk assessments and incorporate risk factors into estimates.
- Provide recommendations for managing and mitigating project risks.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding estimation matters.
- Present estimates and bid proposals to clients and stakeholders.
- Address client queries and concerns promptly and professionally.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and organized records of estimates, bid proposals, and related documentation.
- Prepare regular reports on estimating activities, performance metrics, and project outcomes.
- Ensure all documentation complies with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating within the engineering, construction, or industrial sectors, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively convey information and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) designation preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Industry Experience: Experience in the oil and gas, power generation, or manufacturing industries.
- Project Experience: Demonstrated success in estimating large-scale, complex projects.
- Process Improvement: Experience with Lean methodologies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Compensation
