Job Title: Behavior Interventionist - Summer Camp

Location: Cambridge Community Center - 22 Old Main Street Jeffersonville VT

Hours and weeks: 30 hours per week, 1-8 weeks available

Classification: Temporary, PTE, Non-exempt

Pay Range: Starting at $24

Reports to: Camp Director

Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavior Interventionist to join our team for the summer camp season. The Behavior Interventionist will work closely with children ages 5-12, providing individualized support to help manage behaviors and ensure a positive, engaging, and safe camp experience. The ideal candidate will be patient, observant, and able to implement behavior management strategies to promote social, emotional, and academic growth in a supportive and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for children with varying needs, focusing on both preventative strategies and corrective measures.
  • Provide direct behavioral support to children, utilizing techniques such as positive reinforcement, redirection, and social skills training.
  • Collaborate with camp counselors, teachers, and other staff to create a team approach for supporting children’s needs.
  • Monitor and document children’s progress, behaviors, and challenges throughout the camp session.
  • Guide children through emotional regulation and conflict resolution when needed.
  • Create and foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful camp environment where all children feel supported.
  • Provide regular updates and feedback to parents/guardians regarding their child’s progress and behavior.
  • Assist in developing and leading group activities that encourage cooperation, teamwork, and positive social interaction.
  • Support staff in managing classroom and group behaviors, ensuring a smooth, organized, and fun camp experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field preferred (or in progress).
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with behavioral or developmental challenges (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, anxiety, etc.).
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • High level of patience, empathy, and creativity in problem-solving.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp start date).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as a behavior interventionist, teaching assistant, or in a camp setting.
  • Understanding of special education and/or mental health considerations in children.
  • Experience working with children in a group setting and handling group dynamics.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to actively supervise and engage with children both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and assist with physical activities as needed.
