What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early College Counselor position at Troy University?
Essential Functions:
- Student Advising: Provide individualized academic advising to students, helping them set goals and select courses that align with high school graduation requirements and college pathways.
-Progress Monitoring:Track and review students’ academic performance, attendance, and engagement in college courses. Maintain communication with students, parents, and relevant school personnel regarding academic progress.
-Enrollment and Registration: Assist students with college registration each term and coordinate with high school and college staff to ensure course scheduling aligns with their academic plans.
-Outreach and Support: Conduct orientation sessions for new students and informational sessions for parents to ensure a smooth transition into the Early College Program.
-Resource Coordination: Connect students with tutoring, disability services, and other support resources as needed. Serve as the primary contact for students and families, addressing any questions or issues that arise.
-Collaboration: Work closely with high school counselors, college faculty, and support staff to develop a supportive learning environment and ensure that students have the resources they need to thrive.
Minimum Qualifications
1.Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Public Administration, or other related field.
2.Minimum of one year K-12 or higher education experience, ideally in an academic program management or admissions/student services role
3.Experience working with high school students and/or dual enrollment initiatives
4.Willingness to travel and attend events outside normal business hours (approximately 5% of the time)
5.Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and presentation communication skills
6.Ability to work independently and as part of a team
7.Must have transportation, current valid driver’s license, maintain commercial auto insurance eligibility requirements
