POSITION SUMMARY: The Internal Auditor assists the SVP Risk Management in the performance of basic financial and operational audits for credit union branches and departments to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of the system of internal controls.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Perform general risk analysis of assigned areas and prepare audit programs to ensure appropriate audit coverage exists on critical activities. 
  • Identify activities subject to audit and survey activities to determine possible problem areas and the need for additional audit procedures. 
  • Conduct audits in a professional manner in accordance with NCUA guidelines and generally accepted auditing standards. 
  • Perform detailed audits by obtaining and analyzing data as a basis for forming an objective opinion on the system of internal controls and activities being viewed. 
  • Ascertain whether internal controls, policies, and procedures are designed and operated effectively to assure compliance with organizational goals, objectives, and applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Issue timely written reports that include recommendations and alternatives for identified areas of concern to assist management in developing appropriate solutions and actions. 
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity within the audit function and administrative offices relative to any information received directly or indirectly at all times. 
  • Maintain the necessary files and documentation to support the opinions expressed in the internal audit reports. 
  • Perform follow-up audits to determine appropriate action was taken on reported audit findings and that desired results are achieved. 
  • Perform special reviews of problem areas as identified by management. 
  • Assist outside auditing and examining organizations including certified public accountants, regulatory examiners, and Risk Management auditors with periodic audits and exams. 
  • Comply with all state and federal laws and regulations set forth by the National Credit Union Administration and other regulatory agencies. 
  • Comply with all with BSA/AML/OFAC policies and procedures. 
  • Promote and maintain a positive and professional image of Union Square to employees, members, and the community. 
  • Secure and safeguard at all times the confidential information of members, employees, and the Credit Union pertaining to accounts, security, and personal information. 
  • Must have the flexibility to deal with changing work hours and locations as needed. 
  • Responsible for knowing and adhering to USCU policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook and training manuals. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, management, or Human Resources. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Three years of similar or related experience.


EDUCATION:

(1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
