Under general supervision, develops and implements recruitment programs for underrepresented minority ( URM ) students interested in medicine and. Plans, prepares, and organizes recruitment and mentoring. Coordinates workshops, programs, and mentoring opportunities for various student populations at the School of Medicine-Columbia ( SOMC ). Coordinates initiatives for newly enrolled medical students. Fosters a culture of diversity, access, engagement, and supports students to address issues and opportunities that impact student learning. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 1 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Previous experience working with admissions, student services, or underrepresented minority ( URM ) students. Previous experience working with diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
This position requires strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff in Medical Education. The individual must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare and the institution.
