Job Summary:

USA Cares Inc. is seeking a Government Relations Specialist to support the organization's

mission of assisting military service members, veterans, and their families by securing funding

through government partnerships. Reporting to the Government Relations Manager, this position

focuses on identifying, pursuing, and managing funding opportunities from federal, state, and

local government sources to sustain and expand USA Cares’ vital programs.


Key Responsibilities:

Funding Development & Advocacy


  • Identify government funding opportunities, including grants, appropriations, that align

with USA Cares’ mission and programs.

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications, proposals, and related

documents.

  • Advocate for government funding at federal, state, and local levels by engaging with

legislators, agency representatives, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of government funding processes

and opportunities relevant to veteran support programs.


Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, including elected officials,

government agencies, and legislative staff.

  • Serve as a representative for USA Cares at hearings, meetings, and public events to

advocate for funding initiatives.

  • Collaborate with coalition partners, veteran advocacy groups, and stakeholders to amplify

funding-related advocacy efforts.


Program Coordination & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Programs team to understand funding needs and demonstrate

program impact.

  • Track funding applications, deadlines, and outcomes to ensure timely follow-up and

compliance.

  • Prepare reports on the status of funding initiatives and provide updates to the

Government Relations Manager and leadership team.


Communication & Outreach

  • Develop persuasive messaging and materials to support funding requests, including fact

sheets, presentations, and correspondence.

  • Provide content for communication channels highlighting the impact of government

funding on USA Cares’ programs.


Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or

a related field.

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in government relations, grant writing, or nonprofit

fundraising, preferably with a focus on government funding.


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of government funding mechanisms and the legislative process.
  • Proven experience in securing government grants or funding for nonprofit programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including persuasive writing.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management tools.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the veteran or military services sector.
  • Familiarity with veteran-focused public policies and funding opportunities.
