Description
Examine and treat patients to ensure proper dental care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Diagnose and treat injuries and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures. Provide preventative dental services to patients and education in oral and dental hygiene.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Perform routine dental exams and clinical services such as surgical, preventive and restorative dental services.
- Create balanced treatment plans based on the patient’s needs and desires, in conjunction with patient and clinic resources.
- Advise patients about proper dental hygiene and care, education, medications, referrals and follow-up.
- Ensure all prescriptions and advice regarding medications is in accordance with accepted community standards and DCHC protocols.
- Refer patients to outside dental specialists when required for more holistic care.
- Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications. Chart all pathological conditions and provide all necessary documentation to the medical record of care. Consult with primary health care provider and report findings to the patient.
- Supervise, mentor, train, discipline and evaluate dental assistant staff. Set staff expectations and goals, and resolve conflict. Interview, hire and provide orientation for new staff. Understand, promote and educate staff on all UPFH policies and clinical protocols.
ANCILLARY JOB FUNCTIONS
- Participate in case peer reviews, management reviews, provider education, community groups, conferences, internal discussions and in precepting dental students.
- Assist in implementation of plans to meet the objectives of the annual “Health Plan” and other goals established by the QA/QI committee and UPFH’s managed care plans, including chart audits and provider productivity standards improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of ADA accredited dental program required: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
- Active Utah State dental license required.
- BLS certification required.
- Certification through Drug Enforcement Agency.
- 1 year experience as a Dentist in a health care center, medical office or equivalent is recommended.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and registration, and travel throughout clinic sites is required.
- Preferred, but not required:
- Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as USIS, ECW and Help2.
