TITLE: Psychiatrist
REPORTS TO: CMO/ Dental Director
DEPARTMENT: Behavioral Health
Location: Via Care Community Health Center
Status: Temporary; One-day/week
SUMMARY:
Maintains responsibility for providing psychiatric services to clients receiving services in the department. Examines, assesses diagnoses and prescribes for patients referred for psychiatric care. Maintains responsibility to assure that psychiatry services are in accordance with the standards of care for a board certified psychiatrist.
REPORTS TO: Chief Medical Officer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Develops, evaluates, and updates a written assessment and treatment plan for the provision of psychiatry services in the care setting meeting requirements of funding sources, such as LA County, etc.
- Documents all patient encounters in either assessment/reassessment or progress note format. Maintains required medical records and forms in a complete and accurate manner utilizing computer software systems as required.
- Participates in the training and continuing education of professional health personnel employed at the health center.
- Confers with the other licensed professionals regarding care of patients and medical and diagnostic work performed, coordinating the work of consulting physicians with the work of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
- Participates in team conferences on a regularly scheduled basis.
- May participate in health care research and the presentation and review of findings with proper approval and authorization.
- Develops and maintains updated and current standards of care in psychiatry through attendance at seminars, workshops or other forms of training/education; complies with all mandatory training requirements.
- Participates as a member of NEVHC’s management team; promotes the Clinic’s goals and philosophies to staff; participates in committees; and actively cooperates with others in support of the Clinic’s goals.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of NEVHC’s policies and procedures; interprets policies and procedures for others.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
- Graduated from an approved medical school with an M.D. degree.
- Successful completion of an approved internship and residency.
- Current California State Physician/Surgeon’s License and DEA license.
- Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or Board Eligible.
- Thorough working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and contemporary general office practices and procedures
- Math skills sufficient to prepare routine spreadsheets, calculate/balance invoices/expense reports, and similar.
- Excellent leadership skills. Demonstrated managerial skills sufficient to manage from 1 – 3 employees through other supervisors and/or managers.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), electronic health record systems, and database systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and others.
- Very effective oral and written communications skills including public speaking experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).
- Fluency in English (speak, read and write). Fluency in Spanish (speak, translate, read and write) is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
- Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment; and
