Job Function
Reporting into the Vice President, Global Total Rewards & HR Operations, the Senior Payroll Manager will be based out of Houston, TX and is responsible for oversee and supervise the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the day-to-day activities of the payroll operations team; resolve payroll discrepancies, with minimal direction or guidance.
Oversee full cycle payroll for approximately 400 US salaried employees on a semi-monthly cycle and 600 hourly employees on a weekly cycle.
Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
Develop, coach, motivate and train payroll operations team. Provide clear direction and guidance to subordinates for all non-recurring transactions, corrections, reversals and adjustments.
Prepare and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
Manage the annual year-end W-2 reconciliation process; ensuring complete accuracy and timeliness.
Work closely with HR Partners to ensure there is consistency and understanding In processes and expectations.
Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
Assess payroll processes and procedures for effectiveness and implement changes for improvement to increase efficiency and service quality.
Participate in the testing of all changes that support and implement payroll enhancements or regulatory updates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
Minimum of 7 years of work experience in processing payroll for large companies with multi-state responsibility.
4 years of prior supervisory/managerial experience required.
Experience of Workday and UKG payroll system required.
Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Preferred Experience
Canadian and global payroll experience is a plus.
Union payroll experience preferred.
CPP certification or equivalent preferred.
