JOB OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to join our energy accounting team. As a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information. This position involves maintaining various accounting activities, including financial reporting, analysis, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Senior Financial Accountant collaborates with internal stakeholders to support decision-making processes, drive operational efficiency, and maintain financial stability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial accounting within the upstream oil and gas sector, an emphasis of experience in financial reporting, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Controller, Financial Accounting and is a hybrid position.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Prepare accounting entries on a monthly basis ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Perform variance analysis and investigate discrepancies to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Collaborate with outside departments to provide accounting information to support internal stakeholders in making business decisions.
- Prepare and review monthly accruals and the subsequent actuals to ensure accuracy.
- Support external audits providing documentation and explanations as needed to auditors.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- CPA certification a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial accounting/reporting, with at least 3 years in the upstream oil and gas industry.
- Financial reporting or public accounting experience preferred
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate findings effectively
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and adherence to deadlines
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and lead initiatives.
