The Dean of Academic Services and Support will provide leadership and direction to the following academic areas – Center for Interactive Teaching and Learning (CiTL), Curriculum and Assessment Office, the Learning Resources Division (Bailey Library and Learning Commons). This key leadership role is directly responsible for leading the teams that impact the college’s online and learning resources as well as the curriculum and assessment function. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academics and Liberal Arts and Sciences.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Online Learning (70%)

  • Provides leadership for the growth and data driven expansion of a portfolio of high quality online and hybrid learning pathway programs. Develops program, service and support plans including assessment of need, labor market demand, and transferability aligned with institutional vision/priorities.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Center for Interactive Teaching and Learning and oversee team of instructional designers, instructional technologists, creative media specialists, and faculty support.
  • Develop and modify efficient and sustainable workflow processes and procedures for internal Center for Interactive Teaching & Learning processes to provide online learning services and instructional support.
  • Collaborate on the effective use of instructional design strategies, multimedia technologies, and instructional software to optimize online learning programing and educational delivery.
  • Manage course design and development process, including course development contracts, quality assurance in the course design process, and innovation within instructional design practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide professional development programs relating to best practices in online teaching and other academic initiatives to support faculty and student success.
  • Oversee the college’s learning management system, including but not limited to optimizing use of the system, identifying trends in helpdesk support, and directing faculty support to drive change in teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate other internal operations as determined by the Vice President.
  • Supervise part-time employees or student workers, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Academic Services (30%)

  • Develop, recommend, and implement academic planning efforts via innovative scheduling, course formats, and technology platforms in support of gaining efficiencies and mitigating barriers to student access and program progression.
  • Provides leadership to the Curriculum and Assessment Office and the Learning Resources Division ensuring the overall success of our faculty and students both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Guide planning efforts across all areas of supervision to develop faculty development activities across all divisions, promoting active and engaged learning, the innovative use of instructional technologies, and teaching best practices, and working to avoid duplication of efforts across departments.
  • Work in collaboration with the Learning Resources Division staff, ensuring alignment of faculty instruction with student support provided through library services, academic support services, and testing operations.
  • Identify promising academic innovations and create a collaborative environment to test and scale successful ideas that are in alignment with strategic institutional priorities.

  • CiTL Team (Director of Online Technologies, Learning Experience Designers (3), Creative Media Specialist, Academic Technologist, Video Designer and Faculty Development Specialist)
  • Executive Director of Learning Resources
  • Director of Curriculum and Assessment



Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution in curriculum and instruction, instructional design, educational leadership, or other related field required with at least seven years of experience.
  • Eight (8) or more years of college-level administrative and management experience overseeing a team that provides support for instructional design, faculty training, and online learning.
  • At least five years of experience in the use of technology in instruction and research.
  • Experience managing or supervising creative and technical staff.
  • Administrative experience with Learning Management Systems specifically Canvas.
  • Demonstrated experience working with internal staff and faculty to advance online learning.
  • Successful project management experience.
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 508, FERPA and copyright standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with faculty, students, staff and community.
