What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Chief position at Waterway Twin Tier?
Company Background: Waterway works with local fire departments across the country to meet their National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) testing requirements. Quality service to the fire departments is the primary focus for Waterway, and we’re looking for a Crew Chief to manage the team effectively to meet fire department expectations.
Position Overview: The Crew Chief is a full-time position that is first and foremost responsible for ensuring the successful testing of fire hoses, ladders and related fire equipment. Testing is conducted at the fire department with generally one department tested per day. Training is provided.
In addition to supporting our local fire departments, Waterway’s primary goal is to ensure our team members are working in a safe, professional, and fun environment. We take it very seriously to make sure that our team has everything they need to complete their job.
This role does require some overnight trips as a crew as we service Fire Departments that are several hours from our base in Blakely, PA. Travel will include trips to Southern PA, MD, and possibly beyond. Waterway operates a truck with an 18ft trailer, which is limited to commercial highways.
The Crew Chief is responsible for:
- Overseeing and working with a team of 6-10 crew members conducting the testing
- Coordinating with fire department representatives and addressing any questions/concerns that arise on-site
- Schedule and travel logistics
- Implementing detailed operating procedures to ensure quality service delivery
- Training new crew members
- Managing the safety of the job site
- Submitting testing reports accurately and on time
Position Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience managing a team of junior/seasonal employees
- Ability to work and manage a team independently
- Strong logistical skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working outdoors with your hands, handling heavy fire equipment
- Proficiency with scheduling programs, email, and use of digital applications for work
- Driver’s License and a clean driving record
- Ability to acquire a DOT Medical Card (includes test for cannabis)
Preferred Experience:
- Direct experience working with professional or volunteer fire departments is highly preferred but not required
- Experience directly interfacing with customers/managing customer accounts
- Experience working independently while delivering results
