Position Summary

The Director of Operations for Wayne Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. is responsible for developing, supporting and leading all Operational aspects of our Commercial, Service, Alarm and Inspection businesses. Responsibilities will include supporting and monitoring our sales teams to ensure profitability, market share, and customer success by directing, coordinating, and monitoring all sales, design, operation, and team member development opportunities.

The Director of Operations will manage each of the Branch Managers along with the Ocoee Department Managers in our Commercial, Service, Alarms, and Inspections businesses. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Build and develop a strong rapport with the entire WAFS team, with a primary focus on Branch Managers. Coach, develop, support, motivate, and inspire teams.
  • Work closely with key staff members to become engrained in the WAFS culture. Support and promote our culture in every interaction.
  • Must possess P&L capabilities and understanding. Analyze WAFS results and be able to establish and communicate strategies for improvement. Share results with team members by practicing Open Book Management.
  • Work closely with Sales, Design, and Operations company-wide to strategize and problem-solve. Monitor and manage through-put issues in Design and Operations as necessary.
  • Visit job sites to inspect work in progress and ensure Safety, Productivity, and Quality standards are exceeded. Review job cost reports and make recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer complaints and issues as needed.
  • Increase operational productivity of field team members.
  • Develop Branch Managers, Superintendents, Service Managers, and other leaders to drive productivity and profits. Be a driver in Succession Planning.
  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to deal with staff issues promptly and in accordance with WAFS culture.
  • Remain an industry leader by involvement in and support of NFSA, FFSA, and other organizations.
  • Get immersed in WAFS technology and ERP Platforms, making adjustments as needed to enhance productivity.
  • Promote our noble, heroic cause in all team member interactions.
  • Assess customers and projects to ensure maximum profitability and minimal risk, including reviewing contracts with CFO, General Counsel, and Branch Managers. Make recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer on contract language and customer quality, ultimately reducing WAFS’ legal liability and risk.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and that field teams are developed and trained. Don’t hire or retain people who suck!
  • Conduct regular branch visits to gain team buy-in and drive organizational initiatives.
  • Review and recommend capital expenditures through the Chief Operating Officer to ensure the team can perform at optimum efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and senior staff members to strategize future goals for WAFS.
  • Assess people, systems, processes, and practices to ensure optimum performance. Recommend changes as needed. Communicate a clear vision for the branch to all team members and ensure that the entire team is working toward the same goals.
  • Assess market conditions, identify current and prospective sales opportunities, and work with VP of Sales to develop forecasts, financial objectives, and business plans for the Contracts department.
  • Communicate effectively with Contract and Service teams and senior managers by sharing information on effective practices, competitive intelligence, business opportunities, and needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve team member issues; work closely with Human Resources when necessary to ensure compliant decisions are made.
  • Ensure the safekeeping of company assets, including structures, equipment, and monies.
  • Perform all other related duties as required and / or assigned.
  • What are the Qualifications for this position?
  • Minimum 10 years of senior management experience. Sales, design, operations, and profit / loss experience are required.
  • Demonstrated competency in hiring, developing, coaching, and terminating team members as necessary.

  • Proficient use of computers including ERP Platforms and Microsoft Office Package.
  • Excellent and professional communication skills to WOW our internal and external customers.

  • Strong leadership and motivational ability with attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving and analytical ability as well as superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to manage and lead others positively.
  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and pre-employment background check screening including 10 years of employment verification is required to be hired at Wayne Automatic.
