Wesley Shelter Program Director

Wesley Shelter Inc. is the domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking response agency in Wilson County. Wesley Shelter has been serving the Wilson community through its many programs since 1983. Services include: 24-Hour Crisis Line, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response, The Edward Y.C. Thorne Safe House, Legal Services, Therapy, Children's Programs, Hispanic Outreach Services, Community Education, Prevention Services, The Clothes Line and more.

The Program Director is a key leadership role within, a domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking response organization. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for overseeing the shared development, implementation, and management of all programs and services, including the operation of an emergency shelter. This role requires a dedicated and compassionate professional with significant experience in program administration, team leadership, and trauma-informed care for survivors.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management and Administration:

  • Oversee the daily operations of all programs, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.
  • Manage the operation of the emergency shelter, ensuring safety, security, and high-quality services for residents.
  • Monitor program performance, evaluate outcomes, and implement improvements based on data and feedback.
  • Provide leadership to advocates and program staff in developing and maintaining a planning process with long and/or short-range objectives that define the needs of Wesley Shelter clients and address these through programming, grant deliverables and advocacy.
  • Maintain accurate statistical records and submit them in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the management team, funding sources, and other affiliated agency staff, responsible for the development and coordination of agency wide program planning relative to domestic and sexual violence.
  • Pursue grant funding for programs, develop goals and outcomes and assist in evaluation of programs.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging best practices and industry standards, providing programming and organizational training and resources as needed.
  • Attend Wesley Shelter staff meetings. Complete 20 hours of training each year relative to agency’s mission and your position.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise program staff, shelter staff, and volunteers to ensure effective delivery of services.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance evaluations, and provide professional development opportunities.

Trauma-Informed Leadership:

  • Ensure all programs are trauma-informed and culturally sensitive to meet the diverse needs of survivors.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to establish best practices for survivor-centered programming.

Community Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to enhance program offerings.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, events, and coalitions related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure all programs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including confidentiality and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for funders, board meetings, and audits as required.

Crisis Management:

  • Serve as the primary contact for emergencies at the shelter and other programs, providing leadership during crises.
  • Develop and update crisis response protocols, ensuring staff are trained and equipped to respond effectively.

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and execute strategic initiatives that advance the mission of the organization.
  • Identify gaps in services and recommend innovative solutions to address emerging needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Human Services, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish ~ preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, including oversight of an emergency shelter.
  • Strong knowledge of issues related to domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and trauma-informed care.
  • Proven experience in supervising and developing staff teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to emergency shelters and survivor services.
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting for program evaluation.
  • Proven experience in writing grants on a federal, state and foundation level.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work 35 hours a week.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call hours as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Background check clearance.

Salary: 45,000.00
