Description:
PURPOSE STATEMENT
Endoscopy technicians interact with patients, prepare the room and the equipment, provide support to physicians and nurses while the procedure is underway, handle specimens collected, and sterilize equipment. Works under the supervision of the circulating Registered Nurse and/or Charge Nurse of the unit. Must be a patient advocate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrate the ability to assist the physicians with procedures in the endoscopy suite.
- Provide correct instrumentation and supplies during the procedure.
- Utilize aseptic technique and ensure a safe environment for the patient.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures.
- Utilize time management skills to facilitate the schedule.
- Routinely attends departmental meetings and hospital forums.
- Routinely participates in department projects to continuously improve the department and/or organization.
- Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
- Completion of mandatory department and hospital education.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certificates and associate's degree in medical assisting or surgical technology are accepted.
- Sterile conscious required.
- Current BLS required.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
