Job Summary
To perform tasks necessary for processing payroll for the college; to prepare documents for computerized journal entries as required; to reconcile payroll liabilities; to submit payroll tax reporting and payments as required; to perform a variety of technical accounting duties relative to area of assignment; and to serve as backup to other accounting positions within the department. Must be familiar with college policies and institutional, FERPA, and GLBA confidentiality regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
Essential Functions :
- Perform all payroll processing functions, including collaborating with HR regarding changes, managing communications to the campus community, and designing the annual payroll processing calendar.
- Calculate, process, and monitor garnishments.
- Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts monthly and prepare all necessary corrections.
- Prepare assigned electronic journal entry upload files.
- Maintain records on employee leaves and other payroll deductions, including analysis of requests and entry into the payroll system.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, or annual state payroll tax reporting for withholding and state unemployment taxes.
- Coordinate applications for state withholding or unemployment tax accounts.
- Preparation of assigned annual tax information returns.
- Maintain reports needed for payroll tax reporting.
- Respond to employee inquiries and complaints.
- Assist with end of day balancing of cash drawer and preparation of cash boxes for college events.
- Provide clerical support including computer data entry, filing, copying and answering the phone; maintain a variety of records, reports and files.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :
Education :
Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college with major course work in accounting, business or a related field.
Experience :
Two years of increasingly responsible technical payroll experience.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC's vehicle insurance preferred.
