Technical Designer II Job Description

The Technical Designer II coordinates the fit and construction from initial concept through to commercialization and production for assigned styles to lead to on time delivery and development according to critical dates, product specification, performance, and profitability goals. In this role you will drive the Technical Design of assigned styles product. Working with Design, Product Development and manufacturing partners on tailoring the product to specific consumer needs.

In this position, you will also build and revise Tech Packs for styles assigned and ensure all appropriate development documentation is maintained including product specs and prototype notes. As the Technical Designer II, you will be the facilitator of fit and construction standards for a team or product group to ensure consistency. You will track and drive prototyping for styles; identify and address key issues and challenges in construction/manufacturing and plans accordingly to deliver validated and tested product.

As our Technical Designer II, you will demonstrate an experienced knowledge of patternmaking, fit, and the product commercialization process from start to finish. This role will focus on Technical Performance Outerwear creation for Fly Racing Motocross, Mountain Biking and Snowmobile categories.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing designs: Reviewing sketches and other design work by designers to determine project specifications
  • Collaborating with designers: Discussing designs with fashion designers to make practical compromises
  • Inspecting products: Reviewing and inspecting final products for quality, and measuring garments and accessories to ensure they meet specifications
  • Identifying problems: Identifying potential problems with products and ensuring they are resolved
  • Researching: Researching new tools, technologies, and techniques in garment production
  • Creating contingency plans: Creating plans to address unexpected production issues
  • Leader garment fitting for premier sponsored athletes and work with designers to create patterns, sew or alter samples

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Pattern Making, Textile Science or a related field or combination of relevant education, experience, and training
  • 4-6 years experience in the apparel development process from inception through production, including but not limited to pattern making, grading, construction, costing, manufacturing, materials, and quality
  • Expert in pattern making, translating patterns to written product specs and construction standards instructions.
  • Ability to act as a technical resource and mentor others; lead initiatives and project teams
  • Demonstrated skill in problem-solving and results orientation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage a high workload and multiple projects
  • Proficiency with CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex) and 3D software (Browzwear) is highly desired
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs and Adobe Illustrator
  • Ability to travel 10-15% of the time including International travel
